Power Grid Infrastructural Resilience against Extreme Events

نویسندگان

چکیده

Extreme weather events are one of the main causes large-scale power outages in distribution systems. The changing climate has led to an increase frequency and severity these events, which, if not mitigated, expected lead more instances widespread severe societal economic damages that ensue. Protecting grid against such which high impact yet low frequency, requires a paradigm shift design practices. In recent years, many researchers have focused on resilience extreme by proposing various hardening and/or redundancy solutions. goal this paper is provide survey literature related infrastructural events. Currently, no standard definitions or metrics exist for resilience, adopt models quantifying assessing it. Hence, review most commonly used provided first, with discussion their advantages disadvantages. Next, presents extensive critical solution methodologies proposed improving grid. shortcomings current methods gaps research identified, followed future directions research.

Critical Utility Infrastructural Resilience

The problem of security and dependability, or generically speaking, resilience [1] of Internet-oriented infrastructure systems, such as web server compounds, is reasonably well understood. Although it is not completely mastered (for example, denial of service is still a research subject), it is receiving adequate attention. However, such is not the case with the problem of resilience of critica...

Interdisciplinary challenges in the study of power grid resilience and stability and their relation to extreme weather events

This topical issue collects contributions to the interdisciplinary study of power grid stability in face of increasing volatility of energy production and consumption due to increasing renewable energy infeed and changing climatic conditions. The individual papers focus on different aspects of this field and bring together modern achievements from various disciplines, in particular complex syst...

Swimming against the tide: resilience of a riverine turtle to recurrent extreme environmental events.

Extreme environmental events (EEEs) are likely to exert deleterious effects on populations. From 1996 to 2012 we studied the nesting dynamics of a riverine population of painted turtles (Chrysemys picta) that experienced seven years with significantly definable spring floods. We used capture-mark-recapture methods to estimate the relationships between more than 5 m and more than 6 m flood event...

Active Distribution Networks Restoration after Extreme Events

After extreme events such as floods, thunderstorms, blizzards and hurricanes there will be devastating effects in the distribution networks which may cause a partial or complete blackout. Then, the major concern for the system operators is to restore the maximum critical loads as soon as possible by available generation units.  In order to solve this problem, this paper provides a restoration s...

The impact of model detail on power grid resilience measures

Extreme events are a challenge to natural as well as manmade systems. For critical infrastructure like power grids, we need to understand their resilience against large disturbances. Recently, new measures of the resilience of dynamical systems have been developed in the complex system literature. Basin stability and survivability respectively assess the asymptotic and transient behavior of a s...
